A Memorandum for Nuclear Industry-Controlled Certification Scheme
Nuclear Industry stakeholders start cooperation to consider the benefit of establishing a Nuclear Industry-Controlled Certification Scheme related to the international standard for Quality Management Systems ISO 19443: 2018

On a side event of the OECD/NEA Supply Chain management workshop held in Paris (Nov. 5-6, 2018), 10 nuclear industry stakeholders signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to consider the benefit of establishing a Nuclear Industry-Controlled Certification Scheme covering the auditing of suppliers to the nuclear sector to the international standard for Quality Management Systems ISO 19443: 2018.

While actively supporting the ISO Accreditation/Certification process, the Parties consider that control of the certification process by the nuclear sector is a necessary condition for achieving a high level of confidence in the value of certification. It is therefore essential that the nuclear industry organizes itself to have oversight of this process.

ATOMENERGOPROM, BUREAU VERITAS, EDF, ENERGEATOM, ENGIE, FRAMATOME, NQSA, ROLLS-ROYCE Civil Nuclear SAS, SAFETY DIRECTORS’ FORUM, WORLD NUCLEAR ASSOCIATION will cooperate on three topics:

  • a) the definition of a potential Nuclear Industry Controlled Certification Scheme,
  • b) the strengthening of competency/experience of auditors,
  • c) the exchange of data.

The newly published ISO 19443 standard covers specific requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2015 by organizations in the supply chain of the nuclear energy sector supplying products and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS).

NQSA and WNA, at the origin of the initiative, thanks the OECD/NEA for enabling the signature event.
