NQSA at Cordel

NQSA will be in attendance as an observer of select meetings at the next World Nuclear Association (WNA) CORDEL Working Groups in London on September 13th.

NQSA will attend, as an observer, the Codes and Standards Task Force and Supply Chain of CORDEL WG with other WNA working group members to discuss in particular the harmonization of codes.

What are the objectives of the CORDEL working group?
Nuclear technology is considered to be a major future power source with energy independence and global climate preservation at the center of the global debate. Harmonization of regulation, design and practice are central focal points of the nuclear industry today. The CORDEL working group’s main objective is to stimulate dialogue between nuclear players to increase uniformity on a global scale. The group analyzes the benefits of such convergence of international regulations, specifically for Generation III and III+ reactors, and has a forward approach to future Generation IV reactors.

The NQSA’s dedication to standardization and safety
The NQSA is at the forefront of standardization, nuclear safety and responding to nuclear supply chain challenges and its new quality standard NSQ 100 is dedicated to quality system management. Attendance of this international nuclear Working Group demonstrates the NQSA’s ongoing dedication towards improving standardization of regulation and safety in the field of nuclear power.

The benefits of nuclear technology are finally being brought to South Africa - June 1-3rd, 2011

The Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA) is holding a Nuclear Industry Localization Conference June 1-3 to inform the Nuclear Industry of the upcoming opportunities of the Integrated Electricity Resource Plan (IRP2010).  This new construction program will be one of the largest for South Africa and both local and international markets are expected to create key business relations as well as exchange valuable expertise.  The plan, which has just recently been approved by the South African government, will include the construction of 9,600MWe of nuclear power plants between 2023 and 2030.

With the approval of this large-scale nuclear power plan, the South African government demonstrates its commitment to nuclear technology as a top alternative to traditional energy sources.

The conference will cover such themes as development of the nuclear supply chain, nuclear safety, regulatory requirements and many more.

NIASA invites the international nuclear community to participate in the conference for a unique experience to share valuable experience and make key nuclear contacts.

NQSA is a proud participant of this event and will be there to present its association, its new quality standard NSQ 100 dedicated to the quality system management for the nuclear supply chain and goals to the international and the local South African nuclear community.
